Capacity: The capacity of a 14500 lithium battery is generally from 600 mAh to 1200 mAh, while the capacity of a 18650 lithium battery is generally from 2000 mAh to 3500 mAh. Although there is a certain difference in capacity between 14500 lithium batteries and 18650 batteries, their energy density is similar.
Size: Both the 14500 lithium battery and the 18650 lithium battery are cylindrical batteries. The diameter of a 14500 lithium battery is about 14mm, and its length is about 50mm. The diameter of a 18650 lithium battery is about 18mm, and its length is about 65mm. Its overall volume is about 2.5 times that of a 14500 lithium battery. Different sizes make them compatible with different devices.Discharging Rate: The discharging rate is also known as “C-rate”, indicating how fast a battery can discharge all its power. The 18650 lithium battery supports a higher discharging rate(up to 10C) than the 14500 lithium battery(typically 0.5C-1.0C), which means the 14500 lithium battery is more suitable for applications that do not require a burst of power, such as flashlights, remote controllers, and other small portable devices.
The most important factor you need to consider is device compatibility. If your product is a calculator, remote control, or other small portable electronic product, you need to confirm that the product is compatible with the size of 14500 lithium batteries. Does your product require higher output power, performance, and longer battery life? At the same time, if your product has higher requirements for battery capacity, output power, and C-rating, and is larger in size, you may want to look at our 18650 lithium batteries.
The 14500 lithium battery is rechargeable. Although it is more expensive than an AA original battery, it saves you from having to replace batteries for your device frequently in the long run. It has a maximum of 1000 cycles before performance degradation, making it an eco-friendly and worry-free power source for your devices.
Use a smart charger for your 14500 lithium batteries. When choosing a charger, choose a voltage limit no greater than 4.2V, and avoid charging them for a long time. When using 14500 lithium batteries, set the discharge cut-off voltage to 3.0 to avoid complete discharge. We can also customize a 14500 lithium battery with increased internal resistance to reduce discharge efficiency, but this will sacrifice battery performance, so we generally do not recommend this.
Check device voltage compatibility. If your device is using a single AA battery, it means that your device’s operating voltage is between 1.2V and 1.5V. You must not use a 14500 lithium battery instead of an AA battery, because the 3.2V or 3.7V voltage is likely to burn your device. Only if your device uses 2 or more AA batteries in series (that is, your device supports at least twice the operating voltage) can you consider using 14500 lithium batteries with placeholders instead of AA batteries.
Check the physical compatibility. Some 14500 lithium batteries come with a protection plate that is slightly longer than the AA batteries you are using, making them a less-than-perfect replacement for AA batteries.
In addition, some devices also allow manual selection of the battery type. Typically, AA batteries are NiMH rather than Li-Ion. Therefore, once the wrong battery mode is selected, the device may select a lower shutdown voltage, causing battery over-discharge damage.
