Compared with other lipo battery packs, 5S LiPo batteries are not so popular, but they are widely used in RC, drones, power tools, and low-power devices.The lipo battery 5s can be customised as per different applications.
A:The maximum charge voltage on 5s lipo battery is 21V.After reaching the 21V voltage,the 5s lipo battery charger should turn to constant voltage charge till the current end at 0.01C.Then the cell balance charing will take about 30 mins to fully charge the batteries.
A: There are many ways to test a 5s 5000mAh lipo battery.
(1) The simplest way is to use the digital multimeter.
– Switch the button to the DC Volts symbol V— (0-200V range).
– Connect the probes to the 5s lipo battery terminal (red to positive, black to negative). A fully charged 5S pack should show ~21.0V (4.2V per cell * 5). A storage charge voltage ranging around ~19.25V (3.85V per cell). Keep the discharge voltage below 15V (3.0V per cell).
– Use the probes on the balance connector pins.

A:The lasting time of 5s lipo battery depends on its capacity and power consumption.
Take a 4000mAh 5s lipo battery for example.If its power consumption is 1A,then the battery will last around 3.6 hours.If its power consumptions is 2A,then the battery will last around 1.8 hours.
Normally,the 5s lipo battery has 500-1000 cycles and lifespan for 1-2 years.
If you want to prolong the 5s lipo battery life,you need to charge the battery before 20%-30% SOC and never discharge the battery to empty.
A: There are many phenomena to identify LiPo battery 5S going bad.
(1) Physical&Visual Signs
-Puffing/swelling is the most obvious sign. The swollen 5S lipo battery is completely structurally damaged, and you can’t use it anymore.
-Damaged casing and connectors will cause the battery resistance high and in risk of short-circuit.
-If there is obvious leaking electrolyte and odor smell,stop using the batteries immediately.
-Excessive heat during charging, which means that the battery’s internal resistance is high and end of life. Stop using anymore.
(2) Performance Signs
– Shorten operation time is much shorter than normal, which means that the batteries are aged.
– Obvious voltage drop under load. Once connected with the load, the battery voltage drops rapidly and the operating voltage can’t power the devices.
-Lower discharge current. The battery can’t discharge normal current to power the devices.
-Inability to hold a full charge. Even after fully charging at 21V, the battery voltage drops immediately after stopping the charging.
-Excessive heat. During charging and discharging, the 5s lipo batteries become hot.
(3) Charger&Voltage Check Signs
-The cell imbalance: Mostly, the root reason for lipo battery 5s failure is caused by the cell imbalance. Due to each cell imbalance, each cell can’t discharge or charge at the same level, which causes the 5s battery lipo can’t charge fully and discharge fully.
-Refusal to charge:
-Longer charging time. It takes significantly longer to reach a full charge.
– High IR. Each cell IR is much larger than normal.
A: Use the specified 5s lipo battery charger as per the datasheet. It should maintain the following factors.
(1) Correct charge voltage.
The max charge voltage should be 21V and in CC/CV mode.
(2) The cell balance charging.
The charger should have a cell balance function to ensure all the cells are balanced charged to ensure all the cells are in consistent.
(3) Safety functions.
The 5s lipo batteries should have safety functions, such as over-voltage,over-current, reverse polarity and temperature monitoring.
(4) Zero voltage charge.
Due to some special application, the lipo battery would be over-discharged and detected as 0V. If the charger didn’t have the 0V voltage detection function, the charger wouldn’t charge the batteries.
