Whether it is a battery in a smoke alarm, a house alarm battery, a battery powered alarm clock or a battery co alarm, the principles of replacement are the same.
You need to do some preparation before replacement. First, you need to turn off the applicable equipment to ensure that the power is completely cut off, so as to avoid electric shock or short circuit during operation. Then prepare the appropriate tools and new alarm batteries to be used during installation. Wear anti-static gloves to prevent static electricity from interfering with electronic components. Read the instructions to understand the battery interface and battery specifications, etc.
When replacing the alarm battery, you need to follow the following steps:
Open the control panel. Use a suitable screwdriver to remove the battery cover of the alarm.
Unplug the power adapter. Disconnect the power cord of the working device to avoid electric shock safety issues.
Disconnect the old battery wiring. Usually the alarm battery is connected to the + pole through the red wire and the – pole through the black wire. You need to unplug the wiring in the order of black wire first and then red wire.
Connect the new alarm battery. Connect the new alarm battery in the correct way, and be careful not to connect it in reverse, otherwise it will cause a short circuit.
Fix the new battery. Put the new battery into the battery compartment and keep the alarm battery fixed.
Turn on the system and test. Plug in the power supply and start the device system to ensure that the device can operate normally without alarm prompts or other faults.
System reset and functional test. You need to test to ensure the battery power supply capacity and the functionality of the buzzer and alarm and clear some old programs yourself.
Frequent beeps or alarm sounds. If the device does not hear the alarm and the intermittent beeps indicate that the battery voltage is insufficient, reminding you that the battery needs to be replaced. If it is a battery in fire alarm and smoke alarm, the battery needs to be replaced immediately to ensure safety.
Performance is significantly reduced. This behavior includes slow response speed, system freeze or restart, signal transmission delay, etc., which are all manifestations of reduced battery capacity of the security system. Continued use will not be able to provide stable power supply.
False alarm. Unstable alarm battery voltage will cause the alarm to be triggered incorrectly, and it needs to be replaced immediately, otherwise it will affect people’s judgment.
Dim indicator light. If the alarm indicator light dims or flashes, it means that the alarm battery capacity is insufficient, and you can also replace the battery.
For the above phenomenon, if you find it but do not replace it, it will not only affect the individual device but also the entire security system. In times of crisis, the alarm system will not be able to start normally to provide an alarm. In addition, failure to replace the alarm battery in time will also damage the device.
Power supply check. You must first confirm whether the main power supply is normal, whether it is loose, whether the socket is faulty, and other non-battery factors. In many cases, it is mistakenly believed that the alarm battery is the cause.
Backup battery use. Confirm the cause of the main battery by switching to the backup battery. If the backup battery is used normally, it means that the main battery is faulty.
Check the battery and line. If the cable is aging, the plug is loose, and the terminal is severely corroded, it will affect the power supply. Therefore, you need to check whether the red and black wires are firmly connected.
Check the manual. Different safety devices use different battery types and voltages. You must confirm that the alarm battery you use meets the safety device.
Battery selection. The VTCBATT alarm battery is your first choice. It not only has a 10-year cycle life but also rarely leaks.
Regular testing. Regularly test the battery voltage of the alarm device to ensure that the voltage is within the applicable range to ensure the normal operation of the device.
Store the backup alarm battery. Protect the backup battery in a dry and cool place so that you can use it directly when you replace it.
Avoid deep discharge. You need to charge the battery in time after it is empty. If the lead-acid alarm battery is frequently deeply discharged, it will seriously affect the life of the alarm battery.
There is no fixed time for testing the alarm battery. The frequency is determined based on safety conditions. One month is a normal inspection frequency. After replacing or checking the battery, listen to the beeping sound of the smoke alarm or fire alarm to determine whether the system is normal. You can also judge whether the battery is safe to continue using by the voltage.
Yes. The ambient temperature has a significant impact on the alarm battery. The best operating temperature for hardwired smoke alarm batteries is 10°C ~ 25°C. If the temperature is too low, the battery discharge capacity will be significantly weakened, which may cause false alarms or no beeps. If the temperature is too high, it may cause battery expansion and leakage.
There are three common alarm battery types:
LiMno2 Battery is widely used in fire alarms and smoke alarms. The battery has high density 500Wh/kg & long longevity, which can power the alarms for 5-10 years. With less than 1% low self-discharge rate, the batteries are suitable for long-term power storage.VTCBATT alarm battery with -40°C ~ +85°C wide temperange ,which makes it suitable for different temperature application in car, garage and roof.
Lithium-ion battery: Lithium-ion battery is composed of LiFePO₄, graphite and organic solution. It has high energy density and light weight, can release stable power, and has a cycle life of more than 3,000 times. It can not only be used stably in high temperature environments, but also does not require you to perform maintenance. You need to equip the lithium-ion battery with a BMS management system to better ensure the operation of the battery.
Nickel-cadmium battery: Nickel-cadmium battery is composed of nickel hydroxide, cadmium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide solution. It has excellent durability and can resist the risk of overcharging. You can also use it in low temperature conditions and it is still durable. However, this type of battery contains highly toxic cadmium metal, which will seriously pollute the surrounding environment. Therefore, this battery is not popular in alarm batteries.
The alarm battery may be beeping because of:
Battery problem. Low battery power will affect the alarm and make intermittent beeps. You need to replace the alarm battery with a new one.
After eliminating the battery problem, you can stop the beeping by the following methods:
Power off and restart. If the alarm is a false alarm, you can completely power off, unplug the main power supply and unplug the battery and reinstall it to observe the situation.
Clean the equipment. Smoke alarms are very sensitive to dust and fumes, which will cause the beeping to sound continuously. You need to use a dry cloth to clean the inside of the alarm.
Battery installation. Make sure the battery specifications are consistent with the security system equipment and ensure that the red and black poles are installed correctly.
Equipment problem. If the beeping sound still occurs after the above methods are detected, the biggest problem may be that the sensor is aging. You need to replace the smoke alarm, fire alarm, house alarm and co alarm.
Alarm clocks usually use CR2032, AA batteries, AAA batteries or 9V batteries. These batteries can provide sufficient and stable power for the alarm clock’s display and beeping, making your alarm clock more reliable.
When the alarm beeps, it means the battery needs to be replaced. This is the most obvious sign. Secondly, if the alarm LED light turns red or does not flash, it means the battery is low. You can also test the beeping sound regularly. If the sound becomes weak, you can replace the battery with a new one.
