Battery Information via QR Code

The QR code printed on your VTCBATT battery provides access to digital battery information associated with the product.

Scan the QR code to find applicable information such as battery model, chemistry, manufacturer details, technical specifications, safety information, compliance documentation and other product-related information.

VTCBATT is continuously developing this Battery Information Database to support evolving product traceability and digital information requirements under applicable battery regulations.

What is the VTCBATT Battery Information Database?

The VTCBATT Battery Information Database is a digital platform providing product and regulatory information for applicable VTCBATT batteries. It includes battery models, chemistries, technical specifications, manufacturer information, safety guidance, and available compliance documentation.

Users can search by battery model or browse by category to quickly access information associated with a specific battery.

What information can I access by scanning the QR code on a VTCBATT battery?

Depending on the battery model and applicable requirements, scanning the QR code may provide access to:

  • Product Identification: Battery model, part number, chemistry, and other identifying information.
  • Technical Specifications: Nominal voltage, rated capacity, dimensions, and applicable charge or discharge characteristics.
  • Safety & Handling: Usage precautions, storage conditions, warnings, and end-of-life disposal information.
  • Manufacturer Information: Manufacturer identification and contact details.
  • Regulatory & Compliance Documents: Available documents such as UN 38.3 test summaries, SDS, declarations of conformity, and other applicable compliance information.
  • Traceability Information: Batch, lot, serial number, or other product-specific traceability data where applicable.

Note: Available information may vary by battery type, product configuration, destination market, and applicable regulatory requirements.

What is Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 and what does it require?

Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, also known as the EU Battery Regulation, establishes mandatory requirements for batteries and waste batteries placed on the EU market throughout their lifecycle.

It covers five battery categories: portable, light means of transport (LMT), starting, lighting and ignition (SLI), industrial, and electric vehicle (EV) batteries, subject to applicable exemptions.

The Regulation introduces requirements covering areas such as safety, sustainability, labelling, conformity assessment, hazardous substances, product information, traceability, removability and replaceability, collection, recycling and end-of-life management.

Specific obligations and implementation dates vary depending on the battery category, technical characteristics and the role of the economic operator.

Does Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 require QR codes on batteries?

Yes. Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 introduces mandatory QR-code requirements for batteries from 18 February 2027.

The QR code must provide access to specified battery information, with the exact information depending on the battery category and applicable regulatory requirements.

A QR code does not necessarily mean that the battery is subject to the EU Battery Passport requirement.

Does every battery require an EU Battery Passport?

No. Under Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, the Battery Passport requirement applies to LMT batteries, electric vehicle batteries, and industrial batteries with a capacity greater than 2 kWh.

The Battery Passport is accessed via the battery’s QR code and is linked to a unique battery identifier. Other battery categories may still be subject to QR-code or information requirements without requiring a full Battery Passport.

Do batteries require CE marking under Regulation (EU) 2023/1542?

Yes. Batteries within the scope of Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 that are placed on the EU market are subject to the Regulation’s conformity-assessment and CE-marking requirements.

The applicable conformity documentation depends on the specific battery model, configuration and regulatory requirements. For VTCBATT products, users should refer to the relevant battery information page and applicable EU Declaration of Conformity.

Are VTCBATT batteries RoHS compliant?

VTCBATT can provide RoHS-related compliance information for applicable battery models. RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU primarily restricts certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.

Because applicability and documentation may depend on the specific battery, configuration and customer requirement, users should refer to the relevant Battery Information page or request the applicable RoHS documentation from VTCBATT.

Are VTCBATT batteries REACH compliant?

VTCBATT can provide REACH-related compliance information for applicable battery models. REACH regulates chemicals and substances placed on the EU market, including certain substances of very high concern (SVHCs).

Because REACH information may vary by battery chemistry, materials and product configuration, users should refer to the relevant Battery Information page or request the applicable REACH or SVHC documentation from VTCBATT.

What is the difference between CE, RoHS, REACH and UN38.3?

CE, RoHS, REACH and UN38.3 address different regulatory or compliance requirements:

RequirementMain Purpose
CEIndicates conformity with applicable EU legislation that requires CE marking
RoHSRestricts certain hazardous substances in covered electrical and electronic equipment
REACHRegulates chemicals and substances, including certain SVHC-related obligations
UN38.3Specifies transport testing requirements for lithium cells and batteries

These requirements are not interchangeable and should not all be described simply as battery certifications. The applicable documents depend on the battery chemistry, configuration, intended market and application.

What compliance documents may be available for a battery model?

Depending on the battery type, model and applicable requirements, available documentation may include:

  • Product Datasheet
  • Safety Data Sheet (SDS / MSDS)
  • UN38.3 Test Report
  • UN38.3 Test Summary
  • EU Declaration of Conformity
  • REACH Declaration or SVHC information
  • RoHS-related documentation
  • Transport documentation
  • Applicable test reports
  • Battery-specific regulatory information

Document availability varies by battery model and market requirement. Only documents specifically associated with the relevant battery model should be considered applicable.

How can I verify whether a VTCBATT battery is suitable for the EU market?

Check the Battery Information page for the specific model and review the applicable:

  • Battery category and chemistry
  • Product identification
  • Required markings and labelling
  • Manufacturer information
  • EU Declaration of Conformity
  • REACH / RoHS-related information
  • Transport documentation
  • Relevant test reports

Because Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 applies different requirements depending on the battery category and product configuration, EU suitability should be assessed for the specific battery model rather than based on a general company certificate alone.

What should I do if I cannot find my battery model or compliance document?

Check the exact model number printed on the battery label and search the VTCBATT Battery Information Database again.

If the model or required document is not available, contact VTCBATT and provide the battery model, label photo, required document, and destination market. We can then confirm the applicable product information and available compliance documentation.
