The selection of batteries for robots should be determined based on many factors. VTCBATT mainly provides you with the following types:
Lithium ion robot batteries. Lithium ion batteries have the advantages of high energy density, light weight and strong endurance. They are suitable for robots with long working hours, such as medical robots and service robots. They are the first choice for many robots.
LiFePO₄ robot batteries. Lithium iron phosphate batteries have high safety and long life. This type of battery is more suitable for heavy-duty industrial robots and can provide safety.
NiMH robot batteries. The cost of NiMH batteries is lower than the previous ones and the cost performance is higher. You can use them for some toy robots. This can not only ensure the operation of the robot but also save the budget.
However, you need to pay attention that some batteries are not suitable for robots, such as:
Lead acid batteries. Lead acid batteries are large in size, heavy in weight and have a short life. This has restrictions on the movement and operation of the robot and is not recommended.
Ni-cadmium batteries. This type of battery contains toxic cadmium and has serious pollution. It affects social security and environmental protection and should be avoided.
The usage time of a robot is related to many factors, such as battery type, capacity, operating temperature, etc.
Lithium ion robot battery. Energy density is 150 to 250 Wh/kg, and the cycle life is about 500-1200 times.
LiFePO₄ robot battery. Energy density is 90 to 120 Wh/kg, and the cycle life is about 2000-10000 times.
NiMH battery. This type of battery has a low capacity, a very limited range of use, and a short battery life, so it is not suitable for robots that want to work for a long time.
Size and weight. You need to choose a litter robot battery with the right battery life based on the weight and size of the robot, because robots of different sizes require different batteries. Small robots need light batteries to provide short-term battery life. Medium and large robots work longer and need batteries with longer battery life.
Running time. Battery capacity plays a decisive role in the robot’s battery life. If you want to work for a long time, choose LiFePO₄ robot batteries.
Surrounding environment. Consider that the working environment will have a certain impact on the battery. You need to confirm factors such as temperature, humidity and vibration. Choose the appropriate battery type based on these needs.
Cylindrical Battery
Lithium ion robot batteries and nickel-metal hydride batteries are cylindrical. These batteries come with metal protective shells, have excellent durability, shock resistance and heat dissipation, and are very safe.
Prismatic Battery
Robot batteries with square shells are more compact, have higher energy density and can release more power. However, compared with cylindrical batteries, square batteries are more easily damaged. Be careful not to use too much force during installation and use, otherwise the battery outer packaging structure will be damaged.
Pouch Cell
Batteries packaged in aluminum plastic film are lighter than other shaped batteries and can be used in unconventional spaces to provide stable power.
First, you need to completely turn off the power of the robot device to prevent static electricity during the replacement process. Prepare installation tools such as screwdrivers, gloves and confirm the battery position. Then open the battery cover and disconnect the positive and negative terminals to remove the old battery. Then adapt the robot to select a new battery with appropriate voltage and capacity, connect it and close the cover. After installation, restart the robot to check whether it can start and work normally.
If your robot has the following obvious characteristics, it means that the battery needs to be replaced:
Reduced battery life. New robot batteries can provide long battery life. If you find that the battery life has become shorter over a period of time, it means that the battery capacity has decreased.
Unable to charge. The battery for the robot vacuum cleaner cannot be fully charged or cannot be charged. It may be that the battery BMS is damaged or the battery is faulty.
Unable to start. The robot has no response and cannot work. It indicates that the battery can no longer provide a working voltage.
Abnormal charging. If the charging process finds abnormalities such as severe heating, the robot should be stopped in time for rest and inspection to avoid battery life reduction.
To prevent these battery failures from occurring during your work, you’d better have some backup robot batteries ready to replace them and reduce the robot’s downtime.
